Researchers’ Night at CERGE-EI

On Friday, September 25, 2026, CERGE-EI will take part in Researchers’ Night and open the doors of Schebek Palace to the public. The program will begin at 3 PM and will include three lectures, ciphers, a family game, and an opportunity to explore the second floor of CERGE-EI’s historic building in the center of Prague.

This year’s Researchers’ Night focuses on the theme of communication. At CERGE-EI, the program will present economic research in an accessible way and highlight how information, beliefs, and perceptions can influence individual decision-making.

LECTURES

The program includes three lectures addressing topics related to economics, behavior, and decision-making. The lectures are intended for a general audience, and no previous knowledge of economics is required. Advance registration is recommended.

15:00 – Michal Bauer: Misperceptions, facts, and our decisions (in English)
We routinely hold mistaken beliefs about facts that matter for our choices: how much education actually pays off, whether experts agree or disagree on important issues, or about characteristics of different social groups. Can simply providing accurate information change what people believe and how they act?

16:00 –  Miroslava Federičová a Maria Šimůnková: Chytré hlavy nestačí: Sociálně-emoční schopnosti žáků a dovednosti učitelů podle PISA a PIAAC (in Czech)
Getting the right answer is not enough. The lecture will explore the social-emotional skills of Czech students and the literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving skills of Czech teachers, drawing on PISA 2022 and PIAAC data and comparing their results with relevant international and domestic groups.

17:00 – Ole Jann: The Economics of Truth and Lies (in English)
Communication is the essence of human society. But so are lies. Why do people sometimes tell the truth, and sometimes not – and sometimes fail to communicate at all?

GAMES

Visitors will also be able to take part in interactive activities. A series of ciphers will provide an opportunity to test logical thinking and problem-solving skills, while a family game Find the Symbols will offer an activity suitable for visitors attending with children.

The program is open to the public and is suitable for visitors interested in economics, research, decision-making, puzzles, or the history and architecture of Schebek Palace. It is free of charge. Secure your spot by completing the registration form.
