Jan Zápal Received the Lumina Quaeruntur Fellowship From the Czech Academy of Sciences

21 October, 2020

Jan Zápal is one of seven young promising scientists who have been awarded the Lumina Quaeruntur fellowship by the Czech Academy of Sciences.

The financial support is intended to allow outstanding prospective researchers to set up their own scientific teams and focus on research topics that significantly shift the frontiers of knowledge, or are aimed at socially important practical applications.

Jan's project "Challenges to democracy" will study three phenomena that directly threaten democracy: the influence of autonomous entities, known as social bots, on the political behavior of voters and elected representatives; the ability of political campaigns to target messages to narrow audiences and possibly individual voters; and it will develop a methodology for the classification of public policies and their perception by the voters.
