"Talking Economics!" Series Starts in February

17 January, 2020

"Talking Economics!", a live-streamed series of public lectures, will start soon at CERGE-EI.

Some of our top researchers will present their latest work on topics such as internet privacy, the gender wage gap or economics models that bring in elements of psychology and political science.

"We know that many people don't understand what 'economic research' means: is it accounting, auditing or consulting? Our aim is to shed some light on what we do in an easily approachable way," explained CERGE-EI Director Sergey Slobodyan.

"Young people can choose from so many different study programs today; I can only imagine how hard it is to decide. These lectures will show them what they could be doing in the future if they choose to study economics at CERGE-EI," he added.

CERGE-EI faculty members Ole Jann and Christian Ochsner will open the series on Friday, 14 February, presenting their work from the field of Applied Economics.

The next session follows on Tuesday, 25 February. Mariola Pytliková and Andreas Menzel, also CERGE-EI faculty members, will discuss how they use economic experiments and fieldwork in their research.

Another faculty member, Štěpán Jurajda, together with CERGE-EI PhD candidate Ekaterina Travova, will discuss Labor Economics on 10 March.

Finally, on 24 March, an overview of a very contemporary economic topic, Inattention in Economics, will be presented by CERGE-EI faculty member Filip Matějka and PhD candidate Vladimír Novák, who was recently named the 2019 Young Economist of the Year by the Czech Economic Society.

This series of lectures is open to the public. Book your spot by clicking on the name(s) of the lectures above and filling out the short registration form. All lectures begin at 10:00am in the CERGE-EI Digital Media Center. Live-streaming of each lecture will be available for those who have registered.

The "Talking Economics!" series is a part of our Economics Discovery Hub project and is supported also by the CERGE-EI Foundation.
