Marek Kapička Receives the Czech Science Foundation Grant

12 December, 2021

Marek Kapička, CERGE-EI's Associate Professor with Tenure, has received the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR) grant for his project. His research will provide an analytical framework for studying the economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The proposed research plans to combine the Mortensen-Pissarides model of a frictional labor market with the epidemiological SIR model. It characterizes the dynamics of wages and labor market flows during the pandemic.

Scientists will study the efficient government policies and investigate their implications regarding how they slow down the spread of the pandemic and how they speed up the recovery. The proposed research is useful for understanding the impact of the current COVID-19 pandemic, possible future pandemics, and business cycle fluctuations in general.
