New Academic Year at CERGE-EI

New academic year is beginning at CERGE-EI, bringing new faces, new perspectives, and important developments across our academic community and study programs. We are delighted to welcome new members of our faculty: Alaitz Ayarza Astigarraga, Maxi Guennewig and Konuray Mutluer.

Alaitz Ayarza Astigarraga joins us with research interests spanning labor economics, migration, education, and individual decision-making under uncertainty. Maxi Guennewig's research focuses on financial economics, including financial fragility, financial intermediation, and monetary systems in the digital age.

We are also very pleased that Konuray Mutluer will remain at CERGE-EI, joining the faculty as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor. Konuray has been part of CERGE-EI as a Post-Doctoral Fellow since 2023, and his research focuses on microeconomic theory, organizational economics, and information economics. We look forward to the new ideas, research, and perspectives that all three will bring to our faculty and academic community.

We are equally excited to welcome our new students. This year brings a particularly strong incoming cohort to the Master in Economic Research (MER) program and the PhD in Economics program. We look forward to seeing their interests develop through coursework, seminars, research, and collaboration with our faculty and fellow students.

This academic year also marks an important new beginning: we are welcoming the first cohort of the new Bachelor’s program in Economics of Markets and Organizations. The three-year English-language program is jointly offered by the Faculty of Business Administration at the Prague University of Economics and Business and CERGE-EI, combining expertise in economics and business and providing students with strong analytical tools for understanding markets, competition, and organizations.
