Introduction to MatLab

Each lecture will start from scratch and will result in a working piece of code from the field of data analysis, or machine learning.
 

Lectures:

  • Matlab IDE, data types, working with vectors, matrices and strings, basic functions
  • Data visualization, if clauses, loops, preallocation, file I/O, debugging, getting help, functions, scripts, namespaces
  • Numerical optimization
  • Overloading default Matlab behavior, Matlab objects, Interfacing to other software (e.g. Excel).

Participants who attend at least 75% of the sessions can claim a Certificate of Attendance issued by CERGE-EI.

About the facilitator:

Jakub Ryšánek
Jakub's original domain of expertise is macroeconomics, which he studied at University of Economics, Prague. He started his career as a credit risk modeler at UniCredit Bank where he developed rating models. After a year he moved to Czech National Bank where he stayed for 8 years in the core macroeconomic forecasting team and model development unit. During this time he also spent a year in European Central Bank assessing the risk aspects of monetary operations. Currently works as a data scientist in MSD. Matlab has been forming his professional interests since forever, especially during his CNB episodes.
