How to Apply

- All application materials must be submitted by March 31 (23:59 CET) – regular deadline.
- All materials must be in English or accompanied by an official English translation.
- To be considered, your application must include all required documents in proper form listed below and a paid application fee. Please note that a processing fee of 810 CZK applies to your application and must be paid before the application deadline. The fee is refunded to applicants who are admitted and enroll in that year.
- You will apply on the official website of Charles University, with which we are part of. Refer to the step-by-step guide of filling out the application. Note that the program is called Economics and Econometrics and can be found under the number 0311VD050005.
Required application materials:
1) Curriculum Vitae
Submit a current CV (1–2 pages) that includes relevant academic, professional, and other experience related to your application and the program.
2) Statement of Motivation
Submit a statement in English (maximum 4,000 characters) that explains:
- Your academic and research background
- Your interests and career goals
- How the program at CERGE-EI will help you achieve those goals
Please refer to the Statement of Motivation Guidelines for suggestions on writing a strong statement.
3) Diplomas and Transcripts
Submit copies of your Bachelor’s and Master’s diploma and the diplomas supplements / complete transcripts in English.
If you have not yet completed your degree or have not received your diploma yet, submit an official confirmation of your current studies from your university, including your expected graduation date. Include your most recent transcript of grades.
If you have completed your studies but haven’t received your diploma yet, provide a confirmation of study completion and the expected date of diploma issuance.
If your documents are not in English, you must provide certified translations into English.
Important: If you are offered admission, you will be required to submit hard copies of all the documents on your Master level degree (by post or in person) before enrolling. The documents must be properly verified, and translated if needed - please refer to the Guidelines for Verification of Diplomas and Diploma Supplements/ Transcripts for more details which depend on the country the documents are issued by.
4) Proof of English proficiency level
Unless you are a native speaker of English (specifically born in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, or the United States) or you hold a degree from a university in one of these seven countries, you must provide valid proof of English proficiency.
Please note that a confirmation of studying in English (English as a medium of instruction) is not deemed as sufficient proof of English proficiency, with the exception of studies undertaken in a majority native English-speaking country, namely: Australia, New Zealand, English-speaking territory of Canada, The United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Malta.
We accept the following internationally recognized English exams:
- IELTS (recommended score: 6.5 overall band)
- TOEFL (recommended score: 80–100)
- Duolingo English Test (minimum score: 115)
- Cambridge English Exams (recommended level B2, C1)
Important: Except for Cambridge Certificates, your test results must be no more than two years old at the time you submit your application to CERGE-EI.
5) Letters of Recommendation
You must submit a minimum of 2 letters of recommendation from referees who are familiar with your academic background, as described in your application. The preferred method is to provide contact details for your referees through the application. We will contact them directly to request the letters on your behalf. Please do not submit reference letters directly through the online application.
6) Optional Materials
While not required, we strongly encourage applicants to submit their GRE or GMAT scores, as these can strengthen the application and improve chances of admission. You are also welcome to include any additional documents that support your application, such as:
- Extra academic records or certificates
- Samples of written work (e.g. essays, research papers)
- Other relevant achievements or qualifications

CERGE-EI upholds the highest standards of academic and administrative integrity. To protect the fairness of the admissions process and ensure that all enrolled students are qualified, we maintain a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding fraudulent or misleading documentation.
Applicants must disclose all previous higher education, whether completed or not. Failure to do so is considered misrepresentation and may result in rejection of the application or loss of financial support.
The submission of any document—such as transcripts, diplomas, test scores, references, or applications—that is forged, altered, incomplete, deceptive, or obtained under false pretenses is strictly prohibited.
All submitted materials must be accurate, truthful, and complete. Any form of misrepresentation or document tampering may lead to serious consequences, including withdrawal of admission, denial of registration, and disqualification from future applications to CERGE-EI.
