PhD program Second-Year Research Fellowships Awarded

26 August, 2018

Each year, Second-Year Research Fellowships are awarded for the best research proposals submitted by CERGE-EI’s PhD in Economics students. The purpose of the fellowship, sponsored by the RSJ Foundation, is to facilitate the transition from course work to dissertation research and help students to fully concentrate on the first steps of their research career.

This year, Bohdana Kurylo, Maxim Senkov and Vladimir Pyrlik have been selected by the evaluation committee. The committee was pleased with the solid quality and research potential of their papers, and acknowledged that it was not easy to pick the winner.

The committee appreciated that the highest-ranked proposal tackles a mainstream topic by using new types of identification strategies. The runner up focuses on a hot topic of fake news and potentially opens up new research avenues. The third-ranked proposal carefully addresses an important methodological problem in dealing with financial data.

Congratulation to all three students on their great work!
