CERGE-EI Experts Involved in the National Economic Council of the Government

Professors Štěpán Jurajda and Jan Švejnar are members of the National Economic Government (NERV), an expert team gathered to formulate the government's economic strategy. The Czech government decided to renew this advisory body formed originaly to mitigate the aftermath of the 2009 financial crisis.

Minister for Trade and Industry Karel Havlíček said that the main task of NERV is to find possible problems in the functioning of the economy and to formulate recommendations for strategic economic documents of the government. The council should also evaluate the measures taken to spread coronavirus and assist with the preparation of the 2021 state budget.

Štěpán Jurajda and Jan Švejnar are also members of the Economic Advisory Team of the National Crisis Committee. According to Minister Havlíček, this team will only work for a limited period of time, while the NERV activity should be long-term.
