Georgiana Puscas is the New Economic Talent 2020

16 June, 2020

Georgiana Puscas (University of Warwick) has become the winner of the sixth edition of the New Economic Talent competition. The other places were taken by Viktor Veterinarov (Lomonosov Moscow State University), Raisa Khadija Muhtar (University of St Andrews) and Komila Zakirova (Westminster International University in Tashkent).

Unfortunately, due to the ongoing travel restrictions linked to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's final round was held remotely. Therefore we did not have the pleasure of welcoming the finalists at the beautiful Schebek Palace. On the other hand, an audience from all around the globe had the opportunity to join us and watch the final presentations online.

The four selected finalists presented their papers to the evaluation committee, consisting of Andreas Menzel, Mariola Pytliková and Ctirad Slavík, all of them Assistant Professors at CERGE-EI.

The committee awarded the first prize of USD 2,000 to Georgiana Puscas for her paper: "The winner takes more? Assessing the role of political assignment for transfers to Romanian municipalities". Viktor Veterinarov and Raisa Khadija Muhtar shared joint second place. Komila Zakirova finished third.

The New Economic Talent competition is organized by CERGE-EI to promote interest in current economic research among students. It is open to students of various fields of study, not only Economics. The sixth edition focused specifically on bachelor students and fresh graduates.

Nadace CERGE-EI is the proud sponsor of the New Economic Talent competition.
