NEWS: CERGE-EI Alumni Blog Launched
The CERGE-EI alumni office has just launched its new blog. Check it out here.
Your comments are appreciated and encouraged. Please let us know if you have material that you'd like us to share with other alumni - we're always happy to hear from you!
Who are CERGE-EI's Alumni?
All Ph.D. students become alumni automatically. Students awarded U.S. M.A. diplomas and students who passed general exams at the level necessary for the M.A. degree become alumni if:
- their Ph.D. candidacy is officially terminated, and
- they are 5th year or beyond, and they are not JEIRs
- they have met their obligations to CERGE-EI departments
- they have opted for alumni status via the Head of the Study Affairs Office, and
- they have received confirmation of their alumni status from the Alumni Program Administrator
Alumni status cannot be granted to students who were expelled for bad conduct standing or whose behavior was not in line with academic integrity.
Benefits for Alumni
The CERGE-EI Alumni Network offers users the chance to keep in touch with professors, researchers, and former classmates, and to learn about institutional issues at CERGE-EI. Our alumni are living and working in more than 15 countries around the world, assuming some of the most dynamic and influential positions on offer. Furthermore, with a growing number of PhD graduates we are beginning to see a natural CERGE-EI alumni network of policy advisors, academics and analysts develop. Keeping in contact benefits everyone!
An important component of a vibrant alumni program is input from alumni themselves. Please take a few minutes to contact us with your e-mail address, information about your current job (feel free to brag!) and give us ideas of services that you would like us to offer to all alumni. We look forward to your ideas and your participation.
Life-long e-mail account
You can get this e-mail account by either never stop using your CERGE e-mail account Name.Surname@cerge-ei.cz, or even after a few years of not using it, by contacting helpdesk@cerge-ei.cz and asking to have a new e-mail account set up for you. You will decide what username and password you wish to have. All users who have their e-mail account at CERGE-EI can download their email from their mailboxes anywhere via the Internet using the most common client programs (Thunderbird, Outlook, MacMail etc) or using direct web access. You can setup forwarding and vacation services, etc.
Priority library access
You are entitled to the free borrowing of books, journals, working papers, and statistics. You can have 5 short-loans and 10 long-loans. Also you have inside access to all databases available in the CERGE-EI Library (see the list here). For further information please contact the library at library@cerge-ei.cz
Accommodation at CERGE-EI guest room (photos)
Should you find yourself in Prague for a few days, you can request accommodation in the newly-refurbished CERGE-EI studio apartment on the first floor of the CERGE-EI building. We only ask for a token donation of 100 CZK (cca $5) to cover cleaning costs. The money is to be paid at the main secretariat (office no. 3, 2nd floor). To check availability please contact our secretariat@cerge-ei.cz.
Employment opportunities
Every year, CERGE-EI placement officers receive e-mails or inquiries from recruiting firms and headhunters. If you are interested in receiving this information too, please send your contact information to the placement officer (more here). They will forward you employment opportunities. Please also indicate whether you would like to receive only information or if you would be like to have your contact information sent to firms and recruiters. This year, the placement officer is Fabio Michelucci.
Publishing doctoral dissertation
Starting in 2004, graduates of CERGE-EI have the opportunity to include their doctoral dissertations in the database of ProQuest Information and Learning "Dissertation & Theses Database".
The Dissertation & Theses Database is one of the largest and most widely-used research databases in the world with over 2 million doctoral dissertations and master's theses, dating from the first U.S. dissertation in 1861. More than a million of dissertations and theses are offered in full text - in paper, microform, and electronic format. The database is available on the Web at Dissertation Express. Some 47,000 new dissertations and 12,000 new theses are added each year.
Publishing CERGE dissertations is a service mediated by the CERGE-EI Library. Publishing is currently free of charge thanks to a grant of FRVS. We recommend to publish your dissertation - click here for more information.
For more information about the program please contact Michael Jetton, Alumni Program Administrator.
