New Economic Talent 2016 - Finalists Selected

107 papers from 48 countries were submitted to the first round of this year’s New Economic Talent competition. Of these, 89 papers from 30 countries were admitted to the first round.

The Evaluation Committee has selected the 12 top papers and from them the top 5 entrants, who will present their papers during the final round in Prague in November 2016.

Applied Economics for Talented High School Students

CERGE-EI offers a unique opportunity for high school students to gain a deeper understanding of Economics and learn how to apply modern research methodology.

Projects in Applied Economics for Talented Students aims at talented and motivated high school students who like Mathematics. Between September and December 2016, several afternoon seminars led by advanced CERGE-EI PhD students and graduates will be held in the center of Prague.

2016 Teaching Fellows Course

A record number of new Teaching Fellows from numerous countries will be coming to Prague for the 2016 August Teaching Fellows Course. New Fellows from Georgia, Hungary, Ukraine, and numerous other countries will participate this year.

The course features workshops and group discussions on modern economics teaching practices, and is also a great chance to network with others in the field.

The CERGE-EI Teaching Fellows program was launched in 2007 to increase the quality of undergraduate teaching in economics universities throughout the CEE and CIS regions. Since then, Teaching Fellows have taught in 25 countries reaching 70 000 students. In the 2015/16 academic year alone, 94 CERGE-EI Teaching Fellows were teaching courses at 64 universities in 23 countries throughout Eastern Europe, the Caucasus, Central Asia, Russia and Ukraine.

CERGE-EI Promotions

Based on the recommendation of the Executive and Supervisory Committee, the CERGE-EI Board of Trustees has recently promoted Filip Matějka to the position of Associate Professor with tenure and Daniel Műnich to the position of Professor of Professional Practice with an indefinite contract.

This double promotion comes only a few weeks after the announcement regarding the hiring of five new full-time CERGE-EI faculty members. The year 2016 thus ranks among the most important hiring and promotion successes in CERGE-EI´s history.
