Comments of Editors & Publishers

I think this is a very important project. If authors cooperate and share their sincere experiences with journals, both negative and positive, this can become a tool for authors to choose where to submit their papers, for editors to monitor the editors below them, and for publishers to monitor their editors.

This looks like a very useful project - both as a prospective author, and as a co-editor of Economics Letters.

As I am now a co-editor of Econometrica, I feel that writing my (very positive) opinions about the review process that I had as an author in this journal could be perceived as having a conflict of interest. I therefore cannot participate, but wish you luck, and hope you will be successful in obtaining an unbiased and informative set of responses.

I found your site very helpful - I checked a few journals with which I am familiar as both author and referee and I found that your respondents views tracked my own experiences pretty closely. I think this would be a very useful device for prospective authors to identify journals where problems are likely before they submit rather than after.

Congratulations on the journals feedback initiative. Good idea.

Great service, I added my history and passed it on to my dept.

Thanks, I'm a big fan of your project. In fact I have a link from our dept page at http://econ.mckenna.edu/general.htm

All power to your project! Alas, I don't have the details to fill in your form. After N years publishing in psychology, the moral I draw is: publication is a lottery!

Dear Cognitive Science author,
I was contacted by Peter Todd, who created, together with Andreas Ortmann, a new web site for authors to provide feedback regarding their experience with the review process at different journals in psychology and economics. They are encouraging authors to use the site, both to provide feedback and to see what feedback others have posted. If you have a good (or even bad) experience with Cognitive Science, we encourage you to share this experience with others at:
Best regards,
Robert Goldstone, Editor of Cognitive Science

Dear Barkley,

thanks for your message. Please consider to recommend to your authors that they use our site to give you feedback on your processes. The editor of Cog Science has already done so.

Andreas and Peter,
As I am now the editor of JEBO, I think my input might be somewhat biased.
